“Viy” – the final stage of shooting

The film company RFG has started the final stage of shooting the movie “Viy”, based on the book of the same title, written by one of the most mystical writers of the 19th century N.V. Gogol.

July 18 – 27, 2008 the most catching scenes of the movie will be shot in the sets (a XVIII century farm-stead in the Carpathians situated at a distance of 150 kilometers from Prague), specially constructed by the GATTEO Studio (Czech Republic).

It should be mentioned, that the project was launched three years ago. The creative group has carried out a tremendous work aimed at the studying of the historical and literary basis of the plot. The screenplay is written on the basis of the first manuscript of “Viy”, which failed to have been approved by famous Russian literary critic and editor V.G. Belinskey.

The production unit includes Czech film makers, who created a great number of Hollywood blockbusters: “Van Helsing”, “Underworld”, “The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc”, “The Brothers Grimm”, “Blade”, “The Bourne Identification”, “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” and others. Some of them should be specially mentioned, namely: Oscar winner cinematographer Vladimir Smutny, Emmy prize winner Karel Vanasek – a property master, a gold medal winner at the quadriennale in Prague, costume designer Jarmila Konecna. The cast of the film includes: Valeriy Zolotukhin, Alexey Chadov, Andrey Smolyakov, Nina Ruslanova, Anna Churina, Agniya Ditkovskite, Yuri Tsurilo, Ivan Mokhovikov, Anatoliy Gustchin, Alexander Karpov, Alexander Yakovlev, Olga Zaitseva, Alexey A. Petrukhin, Alexey Ogurtsov, Igor Jijikine, Oleg Taktarov and other well-known Russian actors.

The movie is to be released in spring 2009 as widely as possible. Besides, the international distribution of the movie together with one of the leading distributors of the world is being discussed.
